This section covers how you can request information and how to find out if we hold any personal details about you.
Freedom of Information Act – Corporate Information
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives a general right of access to recorded information held by public authorities. The act aims to promote openness and transparency in decisions made by public authorities.
You can request access to corporate information we hold. Please see the How to request information page if you would like to know how to do this.
Selected information we have already released to the public is available from our Information released page.
The FOI Act requires public authorities to have a Publication Scheme. This sets out classes of information we readily publish, where you can get the information, and whether it will cost you anything to obtain it. Our scheme is available from the Publication Scheme page.
Data Protection Act – Personal Data
The Data Protection Act 1998 requires us to keep any information we hold about you private and confidential and to use it only for the purposes for which it was obtained.
The LSC may hold information about you, for example, if you have applied for legal aid or had contact with us about any of our services. Our Personal data section explains:
- The kind of information we hold
- Who may see it
- How to request access to your own information.
Requesting a review of our decision
If you are unhappy or dissatisfied with the way we have dealt with your request, either under the Freedom of Information Act or Data Protection Act, you have a right to request a review of our decision. Further details can be found in our Access to Information leaflet.
