Legal aid in London

With a population of more than 7 million London is the largest city in western Europe.

The region is an area of contrasts.

London is Europe’s richest city but also has some of the most deprived areas in the UK with high levels of unemployment.

More than a quarter of London’s neighbourhoods are in the top 20% most deprived in England.

London is home to 46% of England's minority ethnic population.

Four out of every 10 Londoners belong to a minority ethnic group and they speak 300 languages.

About 85% of all UK asylum applicants live in the capital.
