Chair thanks outgoing commissioners

09 June 2010

Praise for hard work and dedication

Sir Bill Callaghan has thanked outgoing board members for their contribution to the governance of LSC following changes to the board’s membership.

A smaller board of Commissioners has been in place since 1 June – in line with a recommendation of the Magee Review into the LSC’s role.

In future the board will have seven Commissioners, including a practising barrister, a magistrate and a legal academic. LSC’s chief executive and director of finance will be members of the board with equal decision making rights to the Commissioners.

Sir Bill said: “I would like to thank those Commissioners who are leaving for their hard work and dedication.

“The whole organisation will joint me in thanking them for the contributions they have made and for helping to ensure that the LSC can move forwards.”

The Commissioners leaving the board are: Angus Andrew, Tina Fahm, Jane Hickman, Lionel Joyce and Peter Smith.

The future board of 7 Commissioners include: Sir Bill Callaghan (Chair), Barry Elliott, Professor Carolyn Hamilton, Tom Jones OBE, Julian Lee, Beryl Seaman CBE JP, and Dr David Wolfe.

They are joined by Chief Executive, Carolyn Downs, and LSC’s new Director of Finance, Andrew Emmett.

Sir Bill said: “The board’s focus will now be on monitoring and reviewing the Business Plan to ensure the LSC delivers against its key priorities.

“Improving financial processes and controls is top priority. The day-to-day work on this is responsibility of the executive team and the job of the Commissioners is to hold executives to account by making sure they are delivering what is required.”
