Wakefield Community Legal Advice Service update

01 September 2010

New legal advice service commissioned in Wakefield

The LSC and Wakefield Council have commissioned Switalskis Solicitors and Wakefield Citizens Advice Bureau to run a new, district-wide, legal advice service.

The new Wakefield Community Legal Advice Service will have over £3 million injected into it over the next three years. This represents a significant increase on current expenditure on advice services in social welfare law categories, such as debt, employment and housing, in the district.

The service will be centrally located in Wakefield and will run several outreach sessions across the district. The service will be easy to access and available to people who need legal help but who can’t easily travel to Wakefield city centre.

To ensure that people aren’t referred elsewhere and deterred from getting the help they need, the new service will offer all levels of help, from general advice to legal representation, on a full range of social welfare law and family problems.

The new service will open its doors on 1 October 2010.
