150 grants awarded under this year's Training Contract Grants Scheme!

31 October 2008

Supporting the next generation of legal aid solicitors

The LSC is delighted to announce that 150 grants, worth £3million in total, have now been awarded to organisations across England and Wales through the Training Contract Grants Scheme. This is 50% more than last year. These grants help support an organisation and a trainee solicitor for up to four years through the Legal Practice Course and the Training Contract.

Over 220 applications were received from organisations nationwide. Grants have been awarded to a mixture of solicitors firms and Not-for-Profit organisations from across England and Wales, ensuring that talented trainees continue to enter legal aid.

The next step is for organisations who have been given a grant to recruit their trainee. This will take place between now and 30th January 2009.

For a full list of the organisations who have been awarded a grant under the 2008 Training Contract Grants Scheme, please see the 'grant recipients for the 'Training Contracts Grant Scheme 2008' document, on the Training Contract Grant Scheme page.
