Examples of regional work

Brighton

We focused on improving the experience of survivors of domestic violence.

LSC staff met with the Kent Domestic Violence Strategy Group to discuss initiatives.

The size of the domestic violence rota was increased and now offers weekly slots.

The Sunlight Development Trust, a community project, in Medway is fully serviced by solicitors.

The Sunlight project is very happy with the support from local solicitors who are also benefiting from increased matter starts.

Newcastle

Following feedback from the Newcastle PLO initiative the Family Graduated Fee Funding Order was amended.

Meetings were held with representatives from the Bar, Designated Family Judge, President of Family Division and LSC Family Policy Team.

The funding order was amended to allow the Bar to be paid for the Issues Resolution Hearing (IRH) as a main hearing where the same barrister dealt with the final hearing.

This encourages the Bar to attend both the IRH and final hearing in a case, thereby supporting the PLO initiatives in the run up to implementation.

London

The London regional leads have reached an agreement with the HMCS London Civil and Family Director to improve communications and work together to achieve the 40-week targets.

It has been agreed to feedback provider views and share data to look at ways of how the court system can be made more efficient.

Results are being monitored to assess the improvement.
