The Legal Services Commission in Wales
The Legal Services Commission (LSC) administers legal aid in Wales via its Cardiff Office. Legal Aid helps some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Wales. The LSC in Wales has invested over £70m per annum in developing the Community Legal Service and the Criminal Defence Service to help people get quality legal services that tackle real needs. People assisted in Wales this year are estimated to be 50,000.
We have a broad base of providers covering each region in Wales. Almost 95% of the population live within five miles of a civil legal aid provider, which is comparable to other public services.
