Consultation launched on prison law funding
09 February 2009Views sought on prison law funding
We have launched a consultation on prison law funding.
The proposals in the consultation paper, Prison Law Funding, are designed to promote greater certainty and control of expenditure and introduce a specific quality standard for prison law..
Why the changes are needed...
The changes are necessary because of increases in expenditure and volume, from £1 million in 2001 to £19 million this year. We also need to ensure firms that give advice have a minimum level of prison law experience.
Our aim is to establish a system that gives:
- value for money
- ensures quality
- and meets prisoner needs.
The consultation lasts just over 12 weeks, and will close on 5 May.
View the consultation and respond online on the CDS > Crime consultations pages.
