Deadline for new duty solicitor applications approaches
08 April 200914 May deadline for July 09 rota applications
The current duty solicitor rotas will come to an end on 13 July 2009, with the replacement rotas commencing the next day.
- Applications for the next rotas will be accepted from new duty solicitors wishing to join schemes on which their firm currently operates
- and from duty solicitors who are transferring to a new provider and wish to undertake duty solicitor work for that new provider when the new rotas are prepared.
Please note that duty solicitors are only able to apply for slots on the schemes which their firm successfully applied to join as part of the original application for the Unified Contract (Crime) July 2008.
Application deadline
The deadline for submission of all CDS12s is 14 May 2009.
Rotas based on location
As was the case for the rotas which started in July 2008 and January 2009, the rota for each scheme will be determined on the basis of where duty solicitors will be working on 14 July 2009.
Duty solicitors moving firm
- Duty solicitors who are moving to another firm will need to submit a CDS12 for their new firm before the 14 May 2009, and ensure that their notice period with their old firm expires before 14 July 2009.
- Duty solicitors who are currently members of schemes will automatically be included on the next rotas unless we have been notified either by their old firm, or by the duty solicitor themselves, that they will no longer be working for that firm on 14 July.
- Where duty solicitors have moved / will move firms and will be working for a new firm on 14 July 2009, the new firm will be allocated slots in respect of that duty solicitor, subject to our having received a qualifying CDS12 by 14 May 2009.
Applications received after 14 May
Any qualifying applications for schemes received after 14 May 2009 will not be allocated slots on the July 09 rota, however they will be added to the scheme membership lists and will become eligible for panel and/or back-up.
They will then automatically be included in the scheme membership for the next rotas, due to commence in January 2010, unless we are notified that they have left the firm or are no longer eligible for slots.
Leaving the scheme
All firms are reminded that Clause A 27.17 of the Unified Contract (Crime) July 2008 requires firms notify the LSC when a duty solicitor leaves.Further information
