About this consultation

This consultation period commenced on 12 February 2007 and closed on 10 April 2007.

We received and analysed 358 responses to the consultation. Thank you to all those who took the time to respond.

Response to consultation

After considering all responses, we published our final response to the consultation on 22 June 2007. The response document outlines the LSC's plan for remunerating Police Station attendances from 1 October 2007.

Fixed fees will be introduced for all Police Station attendances from 1 October 2007. The fixed fee structure includes a mechanism to allow the most expensive cases to 'escape' and be paid at hourly rates once the threshold has been reached.

Police Station Boundary Areas will remain unchanged from current Duty Solicitor Schemes in the majority of areas.

The LSC are delaying the decision on introducing a Minimum Contract Threshold.

Corrections and clarifications

As a result of provider queries and a limited number of typographical errors the LSC has issued a corrections and clarifications document to accompany the Police Station reforms response.

This covers:

Consultation on Slot Allocation

The LSC also published a further consultation paper regarding the proposals for the allocation of police station and court duty solicitor slots from October 2007.

The consultation period ran from 22 June to 2 August 2007.

The response to consultation has now been published under related documents.

Market Stability Representations

We published the outcome of the second Market Stability consultation on 5 June 2007. We said the current system of allocating duty slots would continue until 30 September 2007.

We ask providers who changed their business structures as a result of earlier LSC policy announcements and believe this has had an impact on their business to provide details of both the changes and the impact.

This will allow us to give full consideration to these matters when determining the future approach to slot allocation.

The Law Society and the LSC have agreed the data collection should not be limited. Providers should write in with all circumstances that they feel should be considered as part of this process, and not just where they have made alterations to staffing levels.

Please use the Market Stability Representations Form on the Market Stability page to submit your data. Please note the new email address to submit the form: cds.directorate@legalservices.gov.uk.
