First appearances in extradition hearings
The LSC and the City of Westminster Court ran training sessions in Jul 07 for duty solicitors on first appearances in extradition hearings.
It aimed to help them:
- advise defendants arrested under Part I and Part II of the Extradition Act 2003
- represent them at the first appearance.
Why training?
City of Westminster Court is the only court at which extradition hearings take place. The training will help ensure that:
- all defendants are properly represented
- the court uses its time and resources as efficiently as possible.
Court staff, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the Police Extradition Squad and providers delivered the training.
Attendees were very positive about the usefulness of the training and generally thought it practical and informative.
