The region covered by the North East Office stretches from Northumberland to Teesside, covering Tyne and Wear and Durham.

The region spends £37.5 million on Civil Legal Aid (£27 million on certificate funding) and £23 million on Criminal Legal Aid each year.

The North East Office has 264 civil contracts and 162 criminal contracts with solicitors and also contract 25 not-for-profit organisations.

Contracting Team
Contracting are responsible for managing both civil and criminal contracts of all types of suppliers from solicitors to advice agencies.

They undertake both civil and criminal Contract Compliance Audits, ensuring evidence of work on files supports the amount claimed. The team also audits closed files against elements of the Specialist Quality Mark, which all providers funded by the LSC need.

Business Delivery
The Legal team is responsible for processing applications and enquiries for the entire North East, as well as matrimonial applications and enquiries from the Reading office catchment area.

The Finance team deals with the North East claims, as well as work from the London office.
