Working in legal aid

On this page:

Why work in legal aid?

Working in legal aid provides the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Access to good quality legal advice is essential for the most vulnerable and excluded people in society. Without it many risk losing their home, their income or their freedom.

Legal aid work provides a worthwhile, interesting and rewarding career.

What legal aid career funding is available?

The Legal Services Commission is committed to supporting the training of new legal aid solicitors. Since 2002 the LSC has been funding and awarding Training Contract Grants to organisations committed to legal aid work, by supporting them in recruiting and retaining their next generation of legal aid lawyers.

So far, £18 million has been invested in the scheme, enabling around 750 legal aid solicitors to benefit from a training contract grant.
